Blocked Charge Points and Dedicated EV Bays

We understand how frustrating it can be to go to charge your electric vehicle and find the charge point blocked or without a dedicated bay. We are actively working to improve this situation.

We recognise that access issues, particularly the need for dedicated bays and the blocking of Charge Points by internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, are significant challenges for our users. These issues can disrupt your routine and deter the adoption of electric cars, which goes against our mission to facilitate a seamless transition to sustainable transportation.

Why our charge point may not have a dedicated bay

The placement of dedicated EV charging bays is a decision made by local authorities, rather than Char.gy. While we collaborate closely with them to advocate for more dedicated bays, the final decision often involves various considerations, including urban planning regulations, space availability, and local community needs.

What are we doing to improve charge point availability

We want to assure you that we are not only listening but also taking concrete steps to address these challenges:

1. Collaboration with Local Authorities: We continue to engage with local councils and advocate for establishing dedicated EV charging bays. Your feedback strengthens our case, so please continue to share your experiences with us.
2. Increased Visibility and Signage: We are working to enhance the visibility of our Charge Points through better signage and road markings. Clearer indications can help reduce instances of non-EV vehicles blocking Charge Points.
3. Enforcement and Awareness Campaigns: We are collaborating with local authorities to implement stricter enforcement of parking regulations around Charge Points. Additionally, we are running awareness campaigns to educate the public about the importance of keeping Charge Points accessible for EV users.
4. Technological Solutions: We are exploring technological solutions, such as real-time monitoring and reporting of blocked Charge Points. This could enable quicker responses and resolutions to access issues.
5. Community Engagement: We are increasing our efforts to engage with local communities and EV user groups. Your input and collaboration are invaluable in identifying problem areas and advocating for solutions.

Your involvement is crucial in our efforts to improve access to Charge Points. You can help us by:

• Reporting Issues: Use our app or customer service channels to report blocked Charge Points or other access issues. Detailed reports help us address problems more effectively.
• Engaging with Local Authorities: Share your experiences and advocate for dedicated EV charging bays with your local council. Collective voices can drive change.
• Participate in Community Discussions: Join local EV user groups and forums to discuss access issues and solutions. Your insights and experiences are vital.

We appreciate your patience and support as we are committed to making EV charging as convenient and accessible as possible. While some solutions require time and collaboration with multiple stakeholders, we are dedicated to addressing these issues head-on. Your feedback drives our efforts; together, we can create a more EV-friendly environment.

Thank you for being a part of the Char.gy community and for your continued support as we work towards a more sustainable future!
